Mountoon Focus
- We collect nothing about you. There are no accounts and no sign-in, no ads, no analytics, no tracking, no advertising identifiers and no third-party SDKs of any kind. The app never asks for your name, your email address, your age or anything else about you.
- Nothing you do in the app leaves your phone. Which friend you sit with, how long you work, when you pause and how many minutes you have spent — none of it is sent anywhere. The app contains no code that opens a network connection of its own, and there is no Mountoon server for it to reach.
- It works entirely offline. Every friend, every sound and every part of the screen is inside the app. A plane, a basement or a week without signal changes nothing about how it behaves.
- The app uses no camera, no microphone, no photos, no contacts, no location, no calendar, no health data and no Screen Time data. It asks for no such permission, because it has none to ask for. The one permission it ever requests is notifications, and only for your own timer.
- Its App Store privacy label is Data Not Collected, and the privacy manifest inside the app says the same: no tracking, no tracking domains, no collected data types.
What is kept on your device, and why
Mountoon Focus saves three small things on your phone so that a timer survives being locked, being left, and being closed. None of it is sent to us, and none of it identifies anybody.
- Your settings — which friend is at the spot, which length you last picked, whether you have hidden the digits, and whether the sky follows the day or stays night. Three housekeeping notes sit beside them: whether you have already been shown the one sentence about notifications and how many times you answered “Not now”; which sitting the Lock Screen timer was last started for, so one you swiped away is not put back; and a flag saying the pending chimes need checking against the session again.
- The session you are in — one saved note of the block that is running: who is with you, how long it is, when it ends, whether it is paused, how many blocks you have done in this cycle, what your friend is holding up until you have seen it, and any minutes that have not yet reached your history. This is what lets the app tell you the truth after you lock the phone or close it entirely: it reads the clock against that saved end time rather than counting ticks.
- Your session history — one small file per month, in plain text. Each block in it is an entry with a reference of its own, which friend, which place, the moment it began, the moment it ended, how long it was planned for and how many seconds counted. That is the whole record. There is no field for how it went, because every way of ending counts the same. Five years of daily use is about two megabytes.
Everything a friend has made and every light your minutes have earned is worked out from that history, on the phone, each time it is shown — so nothing is a score being kept about you, and nothing can be taken away.
The settings and the session live in a container shared between Mountoon Focus and its own Home Screen widget, so that the widget, the Lock Screen timer and the Siri shortcuts all read the same session rather than guessing at it. Nothing outside Mountoon Focus can see inside it. We never see any of it, and deleting the app erases every bit of it.
Notifications
The app asks for permission to send notifications at your first Start, after one sentence of its own: “Only to tell you time is up. Never to call you back.” You can decline that sentence without ever opening Apple's box, and the timer starts anyway. If you decline twice the app stops offering.
- It asks for alerts and sounds. It does not ask for a badge: nothing in this app is ever owed.
- Every notification it sends marks the end of a block or a break of a timer you started yourself. When nothing is running, nothing is pending.
- They are scheduled on your phone, by your phone, for a number of seconds from now. Nothing is ever sent to you from anywhere else. The app has no push capability at all — it is not provisioned to receive a push, so it could not be sent one.
- There are no reminders, no streak warnings, no daily nudges and no “come back” messages. There is no code in the app that could produce one.
- Refusing notifications costs you nothing but the chime. Everything else works exactly the same.
Purchases
Purchases are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see your name, your Apple Account, your payment details or your purchase history, and we cannot see, change or refund a purchase for you.
The app asks the App Store two things: what the lifetime unlock costs in your own currency, and whether this Apple Account already holds it. Apple's answer is what brings the other four friends. Apple's privacy policy applies to that exchange, and it is the only moment the app has any reason to be online.
We share nothing and sell nothing
Because nothing is collected, there is nothing to share, sell, rent, trade or hand to an advertiser — and there never will be. Mountoon Focus carries no advertising of any kind and has no analytics partner, no attribution partner and no data processor, because it sends no data to anybody.
Children
Mountoon Focus is made for grown-ups and students. It is not directed to children and it is not in the App Store's Kids Category. Since it collects no personal information from anyone, it collects none from a child either. COPPA (United States), the UK Children's Code and India's DPDP Act, 2023 all turn on the processing of personal data: this app processes none, profiles nobody and shares nothing with any third party.
This website
- No cookies, no analytics, no advertising, no sign-up forms, no scripts and no fonts or files loaded from anywhere else.
- Our hosting provider (Vercel) keeps standard short-lived server logs (such as IP address and requested page) to deliver and protect the site.
When you email us
If you write to hello@mountoon.com we use your email address and message only to reply. We delete the conversation once it is resolved, or sooner if you ask.
Your choices
Because the app keeps nothing about you off your device, there is nothing for us to export, correct or delete — we hold nothing to act on. To erase what is on the phone, delete the app: the settings, the saved session and every month of history go with it. To ask about an email you sent us, write to the address above.
